The head of a community college district on the South Coast has unexpectedly announced his retirement.
Santa Barbara City College Superintendent/President Dr. Anthony Beebe will step down this summer. Beebe has been struggling with cancer and heart problems, and wants to spend more time on recovery efforts.
Beebe has been an educator for more than three decades, including more than two years as head of SBCC.
Trustees credit him with helping to turn around the budget, getting it out of the red and into the black in a short period of time.
