A Minuteman III missile was successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force base Tuesday night.

The Air Force successful test launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Central Coast.

The Tuesday night launch was visible for hundreds of miles, with people in the Los Angeles area reporting they saw it.

The unarmed Minuteman III missile lifted off at 11:01 p.m., en route to a test range in the South Pacific.  It was one in an ongoing series of launches intended to test the readiness of equipment and flight crews.
