Major Storm On Track To Hit Central, South Coasts; Heaviest Rain Expected Early Saturday

RAIN.jpg

A strong storm system is still on track to hit the Central and South Coasts this weekend, with evacuation orders a possibility for some burn areas in Santa Barbara County. A storm system fed by subtropical moisture is moving into the region, with some of the heaviest rainfall expected during the early morning hours Saturday.

We could potentially see one to three inches of rain on the coast and inland, and up to seven inches of rainfall in some mountain areas.

Public safety officials are meeting this afternoon in Santa Barbara County, and will decide whether to upgrade the evacuation warning in effect for Thomas, Whittier, and Sherpa brush fire burn zones into evacuation orders. The situation could be complicated by high wind predicted to accompany the storm.

The bulk of the rain is expected tomorrow morning, but showers could continue through Monday.
