South Coast Airport Gets New Chief

A man who was an air traffic controller more than three decades ago and has made aviation his life is Santa Barbara’s new Airport Director. Henry Thompson was selected for the post from a field of more than 50 applications in a nationwide search.

Thompson currently heads the Shreveport, Louisiana Airport. Before that, he held a variety of management posts with San Jose Airport, and with the City and County of San Francisco Commission.

He’ll take over his new job in Santa Barbara February 1st. Santa Barbara’s Airport is served by more than a half dozen airlines, has more than 60 employees and a $20 million dollar budget.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
