An autopsy is pending on a Ventura County jail inmate found unconscious in a cell.
Deputies say they found Andrew William Ricardez unresponsive in his cell at the county’s Pre-Trial Detention facility Saturday morning.
Deputies and jail medical personnel immediately started providing emergency first aid. Ventura firefighters and paramedics were also called to help, and the 31 year old Ventura man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a little over an hour later.
The circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation. Ricardez had been housed in a cell by himself.
