South Coast University Gets Million Dollar Grant To Help Clergy, Church Leaders Deal With Burnout

California Lutheran University received a major grant to help pastors and church leaders avoid burnout.

The Thousand Oaks based university and its related Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley are getting nearly a million dollars from the Lily Endowment.

The project will develop curriculum to support church leadership skills. Many pastors have been facing issues like anxiety and loneliness as they help their congregations deal with modern day issues. Concerns like declining attendance, and funding are adding to stress.

The goal is to provide support for church leaders in more than a dozen Western states. Cal Lutheran is the parent of KCLU Radio.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
