Two Dead, Third Seriously Injured Following Traffic Accident In Ventura County

Authorities are trying to determine what led to a Labor Day traffic accident which left two people dead, and a third seriously injured in Ventura County.

Oxnard Police say a car speeding southbound on Victoria Avenue near Wooley Road at about 11:30 Monday night hit another southbound car, and then spun out of control. It smashed into a palm tree, hitting it with so much force it knocked the tree to the ground.

Officers say the car’s driver, Juan Cruz of Oxnard, was pronounced dead at the scene. They say a passenger, Karissa Serrato of Port Hueneme, died a short time later at a hospital. A second passenger remains in critical condition.

The driver of the other car was unhurt. Investigators say they don’t know whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
