A man who was a community leader in Santa Barbara County for decades has died.

Toru Miyoshi served as a Santa Maria City Councilman. Then, he served two terms as a Santa Barbara County Supervisor in the 1980’s.

Miyoshi was active in a number of environmental issues during his time in office, including efforts to close the Casmalia Toxic Waste Site.

There’s no word yet on plans for a memorial service. Miyoshi was 90 years old.
