Man Struck, Killed By Passenger Train On South Coast

A man authorities say was walking too close to some train tracks was struck and killed by a passenger train on the South Coast.

It happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday, near Olive Mill Road in Montecito.  The northbound Amtrak train's engineer saw the man, and blew the train's horn.

The engineer also hit the train's brakes, but was unable to avoid hitting the man.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies say it appears to have been an accident.  The name of the man hasn't been released yet.
