It's taken about 10 years to put together a plan for a commuter train for Ventura County workers coming to Santa Barbara and Goleta.
Bumper to bumper traffic has been a frustrating part of the commute, but drivers can now use a new early-morning and early-afternoon Amtrak commuter train.
Gregg Hart with the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments says it's part of a multi-phase plan to ease congestion.
"In the '101 In Motion' plan we envisioned a system that had all of these pieces integrated, with the buses the train, the HOV lane," said Hart.
"We're working to implement all of those, ultimately we're going to have a really robust, diverse system for folks to choose from."
The commuter train will be combined with free bus service at the stations for passengers to get to major employment sites.
