The governor signed into law a bill from a Santa Barbara legislator intended to improve efforts to get domestic abuse victims out of harm’s way.
SB 1331 expands training for law enforcement officers to help them better identify potential abuse victims, and connect them with support services.
The new training includes asking possible victims a series of specific questions to determine whether the person is facing the risk of assault or even murder. The bill was authored by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara.
She says the training will save lives by getting people out of harm’s way.
