Rowdy College Party on South Coast Leads to Arrests, Citations

Authorities broke up a large, rowdy party of drunk college students on the South Coast this weekend that led to several arrests and citations.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said deputies along with University of California Police officers arrived to the scene of a party on the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista around 11:15 Friday night. They discovered an unruly crowd of several hundred intoxicated, college-aged people. Several were stopped and cited for alcohol violations.

Deputies and officers said they spotted what appeared to be an active hand-to-hand narcotics deal, a person snorting a white powder and another person holding a bag of suspected drugs. The partygoers began to actively resist law enforcement’s efforts to detain them and, instead, assaulted the deputies and officers. Bottles were thrown and the crowd yelled obscenities.

More officers and deputies were called in.  After a half hour, they gained control and dispersed the disorderly crowd.

Three people were arrested for a variety of charges including possession of cocaine, possession of narcotics for sales, felony resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer.
