Two Arrested In Ventura County For Massive Scam Invoving Unemployment Benefits

Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives say two men have been arrested for using stolen personal information to steal thousands of dollars intended to help the unemployed.

Someone called Sheriff’s deputies after they saw the men behaving suspiciously at a bank ATM in Thousand Oaks.  Deputies stopped the men, who had two bags full of cash in their car, as well as a number of state-issued Employment Development Department debit cards.

Investigators say the San Fernando Valley men used stolen personal information to apply for unemployment from the state.  They say the duo then used the debit cards issued for benefits to get cash from ATM’s.

Detectives say they caught the men with $164,000 in stolen state money the taken from a number of ATM’s in the region.  They’re facing grand theft, identity theft, and conspiracy charges.
