Coronavirus Crisis Cause Huge Spike In Central, South Coast Unemployment Numbers

Unemployment numbers for the Central and South Coasts have gone through the roof because of the coronavirus crisis.

Taking a look at three month numbers, Ventura County’s jobless rate went from 3.7% in February to 14% in April.

Santa Barbara County increased from 4.6% in February to 13.7% in April.  And, San Luis Obispo’s jobless rate climbed by more than 10% over the last three months, from 3% in February to 13.7% in April.

The statewide figure is just as stunning. California’s unemployment went from 5.5% in March to a preliminary figure of 15.5% for April.

In the last 10 weeks, 4.8 million Californians applied for unemployment.
