New COVID-19 Case Count On Central, South Coasts Tops 400; Region Passes 43,000 Mark

The spike in new coronavirus case numbers is continuing to grow on the Central and South Coasts, with 410 additional cases reported Wednesday.  Ventura County has 170, Santa Barbara County 134, and San Luis Obispo County 106.

Public health officials are worried because they think we are still going to see a Thanksgiving related spike in new COVID-19 cases.

The region surpassed the 43,000 mark since the start of the pandemic, with 43,350 cases.  There have been two additional deaths, brining the regional total to 381.

Ventura County has seen a 17% increase in hospitalizations in the last three days. 42 people are in the ICU’s at the county’s eight hospitals, the highest level ever.  But, officials say they aren’t close to full, with 11.4% open capacity.

Ventura County expects to get its first doses of vaccine next week, which will go to health care providers.
