South Coast Health Official On Labor Day: Don't Plan Gatherings Which Could Spread Coronavirus

The number of new coronavirus cases on the Central and South Coasts jumped Thursday from the last few days, when the total was under 100.  268 additional cases were reported, including 163 in Ventura County, 71 in Santa Barbara County, and 34 in San Luis Obispo County.

More than 19,700 cases have been reported overall in the region, with most of those testing positive already recovered.  All three counties remain on the state’s watch list for failure to meet all reopening requirements.

The death toll stands at 205, with 101 deaths in Ventura County, 71 in Santa Barbara County and 20 in San Luis Obispo County.

With Labor Day weekend just around the corner, health officials are trying to get people to avoid gatherings which could spread the virus.

Ventura County Public Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin says with the holiday coming up, it’s tempting to get together with family or friends for a barbeque, or an afternoon at the beach.

But, he says we have to say no.  Dr. Levin says gatherings, along with marches helped spread the virus over the summer in the county.  The health officer says he feels we are close to getting the upper hand on the situation in the county, but the progress could be derailed if people stop taking precautions.
