The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner will be requiring reservations for its services in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties this week.
To manage the expected increase in travelers, the train service will require a reservation, to manage capacity and allow customers to distance themselves from each other on-board, says Donna DeMartino, Managing Director of the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, which oversees the Pacific Surfliner service.
She told KCLU News that passengers without a reservation will not be permitted to board.
"We are limiting capacity on the trains to less than 55% so that everyone has plenty of space to social distance and stay safe on the train."
DeMartino says that additional train cars are being added to some services to increase capacity and that tickets are refundable if plans change.
