South Coast City Takes Steps To Form Civilian Police Review System

After large public rallies and hours of comment presented to the city council, the city of Santa Barbara has decided to form a civilian police review and accountability system.

To do that, a Community Formation Commission will be established. The 13 member commission will include people from diverse backgrounds representing various area communities.

The application period will last until December 4, and interviews will take place in January.

Those chosen will get $50 per meeting, go through ethics training, and learn about police practices as part of their membership in the Commission.
