After Years Wrangling Huge "Deltopia" Party On South Coast, Regulators Seem To Have Upper Hand

A years-long strategy to control large crowds and rowdy behavior in Isla Vista due to the unpermitted Deltopia event seems to be working.

The thousands-strong beach party took over Isla Vista shores in 2010; since then, legions of partygoers have attended what's become a weekend-long event originally known as Floatopia.

Now named Deltopia after the Del Playa location, the event takes place this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

The street party portion will have extra sheriff's deputies on hand, as well as noise restrictions and parking enforcement to keep cars out.

Last year, the arrest total was at 25, which was much lower than prior years.

There will also be a low cost $5 concert on the campus of UC Santa Barbara, to work as an alternative and push people off the streets and into the Thunderdome stadium.
