Crowds Rally Outside South Coast Courthouse In Response To Proposed Oil Drilling Expansion

The Trump Administration's plan to expand oil drilling and fracking up and down the coast drew a crowd of concerned citizens to the Santa Barbara Courthouse on Thursday.

Among those present were County Supervisor Joan Hartmann and Director of Strategic Planning Hallie Greene, who said that the public should be alerted to the federal plan to expand drilling and fracking across more than 1.5 million acres of public land.

That land would include areas of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties, including targeted areas such as Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lake Cachuma, and lands near the Los Padres National Forest.

Environmentalists say the areas are of serious concern and are not compatible with drilling.
