New FEMA Maps Evaluating Thomas Fire, 1/9 Debris Flow Areas Unveiled To Packed Crowd

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has released maps created after the January 9th Montecito debris flow to help property owners understand the risks if they rebuild or repair damaged property.

Those risks were explained in a standing-room-only meeting on Thursday at the Santa Barbara County administration building.

John Frye with the Santa Barbara County flood control division says some of the detail will be very specific.

"[Users] will be able to zoom in at the point of interest, and determine what an advisory flood elevation is to the tenth of a foot," he says. "That's the level of detail that we will be going to."

There will be follow-up meetings and one on one sessions to help homeowners understand the maps better as they begin development and rebuilding.
