City Council Report Shows Reimbursement Opportunities For Santa Barbara Following Montecito Mudslide

Millions of dollars could coming back to Santa Barbara for costs related to the recent mudflow disaster that mainly hit Montecito County, but also impacted Coast Village Road. The city utilized fire and police services following the mudslide.

A report to the city council shows FEMA and the California Office of Emergency Services can be billed for up to 94 percent of the costs the city incurred as a result of the disaster.

There are other reimbursement areas too, including expenses to deal with water quality at Gibraltar Dam from ash that went into the water source.

Losses that are not recoverable include loss of sales and bed taxes, which will be about $1.5 million, canceled recreation classes, lost parking fees and the drop in green fees at the city golf course.
