Ventura County Sheriff's Deputies Now Using Body Cameras

Body cameras now in use by Ventura County Sheriff's deputies

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is now using body cameras in the county.

Sheriff’s deputies in unincorporated parts of the county, as well as in the contract cities of Camarillo Fillmore, Moorpark, Thousand oaks and Ojai started learning how to use the cameras last month.

They were officially deployed for the first time countywide on Monday.

The TASER International camera systems were selected by the department because of their ease to use.

They can go 12 hours without needing a charge, and they download video automatically.

The Sheriff’s Office wanted to use the cameras to increase public confidence in officer accountability, as well as to provide an important new tool for law enforcement in confrontations with criminal suspects.
