Discovering Daniel Blue and California's Hidden History of Slavery
Our history books have taught us that California was admitted to the union as a “free state.” But history books don’t always tell the whole story. A community forum “Discovering Daniel Blue and California’s Hidden History of Slavery” will be presented both online and in person at Chalice UU in Newbury Park, Friday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Les Robinson will share the story of discovering how his great-great-grandfather was brought to Sacramento in 1849 as an enslaved man and went on to play a remarkable role in some of California’s first civil rights legislation. Cynthia Jones-Campbell will provide historical context.
This Community Forum is a program of Chalice Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Conejo Valley and is being co-sponsored by Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE). For more information and to register for a free Zoom link or to attend in person, visit forum.chaliceuu.org or contact Randall Edwards via e-mail at forum@chaliceuu.org or by calling the church office at (805) 498-9548
