The Trump administration’s proposed changes to Head Start could affect more than a thousand children from low-income families in Ventura County, especially children from birth to age five.
Head Start provides preschool, childcare, food, and support to qualifying families.
"The Head Start program works for the most vulnerable of the poorest kids in our society, including those who are homeless, in foster care, and/or disabled," said Jack Hinojosa, CEO of Child Development Resources of Ventura County, which locally administers Head Start’s programs.
"This is something that would be absolutely devastating if the program were cut," he added. "It also supports families' well-being, keeps them gainfully employed and contributing to society here in Ventura County."
The public can comment on the proposed changes starting on August 7. The comment period is open for 60 days.
