The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme (BGCOP) held the groundbreaking of a major renovation to its Port Hueneme Clubhouse — a milestone that will add more safe spaces for local youth, more mentors, and more lifechanging programs, on Friday.

The new clubhouse is expected to be completed early next year.

The Boys and Girls Club of Oxnard and Port Hueneme is starting work on a new multi-million dollar clubhouse.

"It's just not about bricks and blueprints and all of the things that we've been working on over the last 10 years," said the club’s CEO, Erin Antrim. "It really is about a belief in our young people."

She added that investing in youth is an investment in the entire community.

"We serve about 2,400 young people a day, ranging in ages from 5 to 18. It's a real economic factor. For every dollar invested into a Boys and Girls Club, there's a $17 return on investment. And part of that is that we provide a safe space for kids to be after school and during the summer, and that allows their parents to go to work and contribute to the economy."

The new clubhouse is at 590 E. Pleasant Valley Road in Port Hueneme. It's expected to be completed early next year.
