It was a spectacular sight for people up during the early morning hours in the Tri-Counties. The Air Force launched a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The launch took place at 5:11 a.m. Wednesday morning. The missile carried a test reentry vehicle which was successfully deployed to a test range some 4200 miles away, in the Western Pacific.

It's part of an ongoing series of test launches to check equipment and crew readiness.

Airmen from the Air Force's 341st Missile Wing in Montana took part in the test launch.
