When the Tri-Counties gets heavy rainfall, it can create a massive natural flower show in a national monument that's in a remote part of our region.

That's what's happening this spring, in the Carrizo Plain National Monument.

The Carrizo Plain is a massive grassy open area in southeastern San Luis Obispo County.

People are flocking there to see the numerous wildflowers carpeting the valley floor.

"It is putting on a really great show," explained Ken Owen, Executive Director, Channel Islands Restoration. He said it’s not quite a superbloom, but still spectacular.

"Because it's a wet year, there's a lot of flowers to see and that's kind of a rare thing that we should all be taking advantage of," he said.

And Channel Islands Restoration are running day trips to the area.
