A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Oxnard.

Oxnard Police say man carrying a five foot metal bar advanced on officers, and ignored orders to stop.

What began as a traffic stop involving a suspected DUI driver ended with a fatal officer involved shooting in the Tri-Counties.

It happened at around 6 a.m. Sunday, in Oxnard. Oxnard Police officers stopped a car on the 100 block of West Fourth Street. They say a man unrelated to the traffic stop showed up at the scene carrying a five-foot-long steel bar.

Officers say he was carrying it in a threatening manner, and ignored warnings to stop advancing towards them. When he nearly reached them, an officer opened fire, fatally wounding the 60-year-old man. His name hasn’t been released. An investigation is underway.

Oxnard Police say they will release body videocam video of the incident later this week.
