House fire leaves two dead, three injured on Central Coast

Two people died in a house fire Sunday night on the Central Coast.

Flames rip through house near Santa Maria; Cause under investigation.

Investigators are trying to figure out what led to a house fire which left two people dead, and sent three others to the hospital on the Central Coast.

The blaze was reported just after 10 Sunday night in the Tanglewood neighborhood just southwest of Santa Maria. Santa Barbara County firefighters called to the 3000 block of Driftwood Drive found flames, and smoke coming from a house.

As they worked to knock down the blaze, the found the bodies of two women in a bedroom. A man was taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, as were two Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies involved in rescue efforts.

Firefighters say 13 people lived in the home, but 10 of them were away at the time of the fire.
