From school districts to supervisorial seats, many governmental agencies on the Central and South Coasts are in the redistricting process. They are realigning districts for elected posts to reflect the results of the 2020 census.
Noon Friday is the deadline for people to submit their proposals for realigning the five districts for the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. So far, more than 60 proposed maps have been submitted.
The big issue in Santa Barbara County is revolving around the county’s Third District, which is once again expected to include both parts of the Central and South Coasts.
For decades, the County Board of Supervisors had the final say in redistricting. But, voters approved a plan to put it in the hands of the public. The 11-member Citizens Independent Redistricting Commission will review the proposal, and decide the boundaries of the supervisorial districts.
