Officers say they opened fire after Lompoc man pointed gun at them

Authorities are now identifying the man who died in an officer-involved shooting on the Central Coast. Lompoc Police were called to a home Saturday night by a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

They say they encountered a man who barricaded himself inside of the house. Officers say Travis Daniel Carlon eventually came to the door with a gun. They say they shot, and fatally wounded the 32-year-old Lompoc man when he pointed the weapon at them.

The shooting is being investigated by the Lompoc Police Department, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, as well as by a new officer-involved shooting state investigation team.
