    Charles S. Morris has seen over 300 comets. He’ll talk about how to visually observe comets, the pros and cons of digital imaging, and what the average person can contribute to science. Throughout his talk he’ll show stunning images of the comets he’s observed then wrap up his talk with a look ahead to significant comets in 2023.

  • Dr. Kevin D. McKeegan, Professor of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry in UCLA’s Dept. of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences; will bring actual meteorites to display and talk about their origin and composition.

  • Ventura County Astronomical Society hosts it’s second of 5 monthly summer star Parties at the Moorpark College Observatory. Professor Hal Jandorf will take you on an interactive tour of the night sky with a PowerPoint presentation and a green laser. Then see for yourself the coolest objects in the night sky through dozens of telescopes set up and ready to go. Arrive at 7:30 to get a reservation ticket to enter the dome.     WILD LIGHTS & DISCO NIGHTS will inspire a groovy energy as guests walk through a sparkling disco ball forest.

    Visit Ira the lion under the Lion’s Den Canopy of Lights! MOVE and GROOVE to the tunes in front of our INTERACTIVE light wall in our ARCTIC VIBES area.

    Join us on a themed night and come dressed to impress according to the theme.
  • Ventura County Astronomical Society hosts it's first Family Friendly Star Party of 2023 at the Moorpark College Observatory on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 8 pm. Gates Open at 7. Please arrive early to get a priority ticket to enter the dome and look through the observatory's 6-inch Takahashi Telescope. Professor Hal Jandorf starts the evening at the open-air amphitheater with a preview of what's up. Then we move to the observation deck where VCAS members have dozens of telescopes set-up and ready to go. Those who have priority tickets will be called in groups of ten to enter the Dome, no more standing in line all night! Only 100 tickets will be given out and after that those who didn't get one will be called to line up, but only if time permits. This is a free event sponsored by the Moorpark College Foundation. Recommended for Children 6 and up. Please, no pets

    Moorpark College, Oxnard College, Ventura College and Ventura College East Campus are holding free Cash 4 College workshops to help students apply for funds to help with college costs. Funds can be used for tuition, books, housing, transportation, childcare, computers and more.

    In-person workshops are scheduled for Oct. 8 and 22. The workshops are free and open to the community; anyone may attend a workshop on either date and can drop in at any time during the events.

    Bilingual financial aid staff will assist students in completing applications for the 2023-2024 school-year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Students can also access information about basic needs support (food, clothing and housing assistance), tutoring, academic counseling, mental health services and other student services.
    AB 132 now requires school districts to confirm seniors have completed the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application before graduating in 2023. Cash for College events can help students get ahead.

  • Moorpark College is partnering with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter John Ondrasik, who is known as Five for Fighting, to host the “Concert for the Cats” benefit.

    Proceeds from the concert will assist in the completion of America’s Teaching Zoo’s Tiger Retreat Habitat for Bengal tigers Neil and Karma. The new exhibit will include two sections for Neil and Karma with a connecting bridge that zoo visitors will be able to walk under.

    Moorpark College Music department students will open the show at 5 p.m. in the Moorpark College Campus Quad.

    VIP tickets for the fundraiser include an exclusive pre-show photo-op meet-and-greet with Ondrasik at 4:30 p.m., a tour of America’s Teaching Zoo with animal interactions, refreshments and reserved seating for the concert.
  • Dr. Brian Moncelli from NASA/JPL will discuss the Mars Rover Perseverance and with its onboard instrumentation package SherLOC and Watson. These instruments will investigate past micro-bionic life and Martian geology. This will be an exciting and fact filled slide show/lecture! The meeting is in the Moorpark College Forum [Applied Arts Building] masks optional.

    This Family Friendly event is FREE and recommended for ages 12 and up.
