    Guest speaker Bent Olsen will speak on Danish Bakeries in Solvang, California. Learn how six Danish bakeries have been able to thrive in Solvang, a small village of just 6,000 residents with a unique history. Peer into the rich culture and passed down techniques of Danish baking. Get a taste for yourself and sample the Olsen’s Danish Village Bakery signature pastry. Fresh brewed coffee will be provided, courtesy of El Rancho Marketplace. The presentation will finish with a Q&A.

    The Neal Taylor Nature Center (NTNC) is located within Cachuma Recreational Area in a picturesque old ranch house. Developed and operated by a corps of committed volunteers, it offers exhibits on the local valley and mountain environment for all ages, emphasizing hands-on exhibits for children of all ages.

  • THE FRIENDS OF THE BUELLTON LIBRARY ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT THEIR SPRING ART SHOWCASE IN HONOR OF
    MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND MOTHERS’ DAY.

    This exhibit for the entire month of May is entitled,“Creating from Within,” featuring four local artists from the Santa Ynez Valley,
    expressing the love-bond between mother and child, the joy of life, sharing thoughts and feelings without words, and visually representing deeply felt emotions as part of a self-soothing process.

    The four artists exhibiting in our Spring Art Showcase are Renée Kelleher, Maggie Powell,
    Sherry Uyeda & Alexandra Yakutis presenting in various mediums: oils, graphite, water
    colors, colored pencil, charcoal, and ceramic.

    This art will be on display for the entire month of May inside the Friends’ Room at the Buellton
    Library, which will be accessible for viewing during our open store hours (3 days per week, 2
    hours each day), as well as, for the Opening Reception. Our open hours are: Mondays
    10am-noon, Tuesdays 2-4pm, and Saturdays 11am-1pm.

    Our goal for our art showcases is to highlight Local Artists from the Santa Ynez Valley and bring
    art appreciation to the community. The Friends’ Room is also a used book store, where we
    raise funds to support the Buellton Library, host lecture series, and other events.

    We will be having a wine & hors d'oeuvres Artist Reception on Sat., May 2nd, from 4-6pm.
  • Informational Sessions for people interested in being a Mentor to an adult with intellectual/physical disabilities. California Mentor's purpose is to match Mentors (Adult Foster Families) with these special individuals looking for a place to live. We partner with Tri-Counties Regional Center to meet the individuals. Every Tuesday at 10 am and Wednesday at 6 pm we host Zoom Informational Sessions to people who want to learn more about our program. It would be great to post this information on your calendar of events.

    Just in time for Thanksgiving! Santa Barbara Permaculture Network presents the film premiere of Gratitude Revealed, a new film by Louis Schwartzberg, the director of the acclaimed Fantastic Fungi documentary, and recent recipient of the Santa Barbara Permaculture Network’s 2022 Eco Hero Award, graciously received to a standing ovation.
    An epic journey forty years in the making, Gratitude Revealed is a rich visual tapestry that takes viewers on a transformational cinematic experience of how to live a more meaningful life full of Gratitude through intimate conversations with everyday people, thought leaders, and personalities, revealing Gratitude is a proven pathway back from the disconnection we feel in our lives---disconnection from ourselves, our planet, and each other. Louie Schwartzberg will be attending the event in person, and welcomes a lively Q&A session following the film. Please join us!
    Louie Schwartzberg is an American director, producer, and cinematographer, recognized as a pioneer in high-end time-lapse cinematography, and visual artist known for breaking down barriers of perception and taking viewers on journeys of time and scale. For more than forty years, with his studio Moving Art, his passion has been telling stories through film that celebrate life and reveal the mysteries and wisdom of nature.
