Stop by the Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) booth at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival and take home free seedlings courtesy of Plantel Nurseries. This is SEEAG’s 3rd Annual Plantopia Earth Day event designed to raise awareness and support SEEAG’s agricultural education programs. The Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival is on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Alameda Park (1400 Santa Barbara St., Santa Barbara).

While supplies last, those who come by the SEEAG booth can select a combination of 12 small vegetable plants to fill two six-pack containers.

On that day, the preternatural forces of the Mountain Fire brought them into another state of being, and our community of Camarillo joined millions of people, plants, and animals around the globe who have undergone a radical transformation as a results of catastrophic natural disasters. Whether functional or sentimental; machine or hand made, the history and functionality of these objects has been displaced by a patina that puts our own existence in perspective.
Like us, they are survivors, unified by the scars of the fire.

Join the Ventura County Interfaith Community as it celebrates Vespers under the guidance of Fr. Constantine Trumpower of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. We’ll gather on Tuesday, September 9th at 6:30 PM at the church at 5575 Santa Rosa Rd in Camarillo for the Vespers service. Following Vespers, Fr. Trumpower will speak briefly about the connections between the Jerusalem Temple, which was for centuries the center of Jewish worship, and Orthodox church architecture.

Admission is free, and all are welcome, so feel free to invite friends and family who may have an interest in what promises to be a fascinating evening.

Parents can have an evening out, get a head start on holiday shopping or spend a quiet evening at home while their kids have fun under supervised care at the Yarrow Family YMCA, Friday, November 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Y’s Parents’ Night Out is open to YMCA members and nonmembers.

Activities include games, arts & crafts, dance and basketball gym free play. All activities are monitored/led by YMCA staff. Kids must be age 4 or up and be able to use the restroom on their own.

The cost is $23 per child for members and $33 per child for nonmembers. Fees include dinner, snacks, drinks and dessert.

Founded in 2011 and born under the warm California sun, Quitapenas share a love of dance rhythms from the tropical Afro-Latin diaspora.The group is made up of first generation sons of immigrant parents from Guatemala and Mexico. They borrow aesthetics from the radical 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Their songs are a remix of history, and invite one to engage in the liberating evenings of Angola, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and beyond. The name means “to remove worries.” Everybody has a “pena” and the mission of Quitapenas is simple: to make you dance and leave you without a worry.

Coinciding with International Women's Day, celebrated this year on March 8th, is the opening of OPAC's "Arbol de la Vida" exhibition. Translated as "Tree of Life," this show brings together 6 regional artists who express their unique perspectives through a range of mediums, including painting and tapestry. Their works speak to themes of growth, strength, and interconnectedness and weave a layered narrative of womanhood, resilience, and empowerment.

The Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club, CVARC, is holding a Technician Level Amateur Radio License course. The FCC Technician license is the gateway to the world of Amateur Radio (often called ham radio), from the local VHF and UHF bands to worldwide on the "shortwave" bands. The course is held on 5 Saturday mornings on September 2, 9, 23, 30, and October 7, from 8:00 am to noon. The location is the Community Room at the East County Sheriff Station, 2101 East Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. A testing session for licensing is also being held October 15th. Kenneth Kamler, Md is a surgeon who also climbs mountains. He was team doctor on three expeditions to the top of Mount Everest, including the disastrous 1996 trip during which 6 people died. Kamler is both storyteller and advisor in his book, Doctor on Everest: Emergency Medicine at the Top of the World - A Personal Account including the 1996 Disaster. (The Lyons Press) Blackened limbs due to severe frostbite were the least of his troubles. I-V fluids are frozen solid, and abrasions cannot heal at such high altitudes. Kamler's day job is Director of the Hand Treatment Center in Hyde Park, New York, where he is a microsurgeon. He's done research on telemedicine for NASA and Yale Medical School.
