MARK HUMMEL Harp Blowout Producer, Grammy nominee/Blues Award winner/author/harp man started playing harmonica in 1970 and has gone on to become one of the premier blues harmonica players of his generation. Hummel has been featured on over thirty recordings since 1985 including the Grammy nominated 2013 Blind Pig release ‘Remembering Little Walter’ (a recording of a Mark Hummel Blues Harmonica Blowout). “Mark Hummel came of age in the early ’70’s at the height of rock and roll, like many of his peers went and bought a harmonica and hasn’t stopped playing since. RJ MISCHO is considered by critics and fans worldwide to be in the upper echelon of today’s great Harp players and singers. RJ’s music is drenched in the grease of the juke joint shuffles that have stayed in style since before they called it Rock & Roll. “Mischo’s magnificent tone, formidable chops, and affable, self-assured vocals…” make him a top entertainer; the kind of entertainer that only 25 years of touring experience will bring to the stage.

Brittney Burchett is a 30 year old from Ventura, California. She began singing on stage at the age of 6 and started singing even before she could speak. Music has always been a big part of her life, but she didn’t start writing it until she was 16 (when she first picked up the guitar). Since then, she has written over 300 original songs in multiple bands and other musical projects. Her singing styles include but aren’t limited to jazz, blues, R&B, punk, country, rock, and even a little opera. She is mostly compared to the late singer Janis Joplin.

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) invites the community to the opening reception of Emergence 2024 on Saturday, February 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The reception will feature opening remarks from SCIART President Don Harper, California Lutheran University President Lori E. Varlotta, PhD and Camarillo Mayor Tony Trembley. The exhibition features a juried selection of junior, seniors, and recent graduates from local colleges and universities and will be on view in the gallery from February 3 – February 23, 2024. The exhibition will be open in the main gallery at 2222 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, CA 93010. Admission to the opening reception and gallery is free and plenty of free parking is available. Considered one of the most unique and influential guitarists of our time, Kaki King continues to deconstruct and redefine the role of solo instrumental artist though virtuoso technique, insatiable imagination, and boundless humanity. Her now-signature multi-media performance, both provocative and moving, uses projection mapping to present the guitar as a tool that can shape both music and video content, all triggered (and often improvised live) via her Ovation Adamas Signature 6-String Acoustic guitar, customized specifically for her multimedia performance. Ventura County Area Agency on Aging’s Fall Prevention Program presents:
Stepping On

Stepping On is designed for individuals 60 and older who have fallen or who are fearful of falling. Participants have access to a physical therapist who teaches strength and balance exercises, a vision expert, a public safety expert, and a pharmacist who will discuss fall risks associated with certain medications.

Participants should not have dementia and should not be reliant on a walker. Individuals should be motivated to exercise with gradual use of leg weights at home.
