In collaboration with the Santa Barbara Public Library and made possible through their generous grant, this free, limited-time workshop series offers community members the chance to learn valuable skills in sewing, repairing, and upcycling clothing and textiles. From beginners to seasoned sewists, all are welcome!

Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer guidance, tips, and tricks to help you bring your vision to reality.

From crafting personalized garments to reviving old favorites through expert mending techniques, there’s no limit to what you can achieve with our supportive community.

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll craft terrariums using reclaimed glass containers and natural, locally sourced materials. Discover how closed-loop systems work, explore plant care tips, and discuss the environmental benefits of upcycling. This workshop blends creativity with eco-conscious learning—bringing new life to old objects while nurturing a greener future!

Get ready for natural dyeing fun at our Community Indigo Dye Bath Workshop. Refresh your favorite fabrics and clothing. Bring an item from home that needs a new burst of color and experience the magic of natural indigo dyeing. Our staff will guide you through the dyeing process and help you transform your chosen piece into a vibrant, one-of-a-kind creation. Items must be no larger than a t-shirt, each participant may dye up to 3 items. The cost is $5 per item. Pre-registration is not necessary.

Join us at Explore Ecology Makerspace for a fun, eco-friendly workshop turning recycled greeting cards into vibrant spring garlands! Learn simple cutting and stringing techniques to transform old cards into festive décor. Perfect for all skill levels, this creative reuse project keeps waste out of landfills while adding a handmade touch to your space. Cost: $15 general, $10 for students/educators. Join us for our April Crafternoons: Craft for the Earth, where creativity meets sustainability! This month, we’re celebrating Earth Month with hands-on workshops that transform everyday recycled materials into artful treasures. Perfect for all ages and skill levels, these eco-friendly projects encourage kids to craft with purpose while having a blast.

Craft for the Earth Projects include:
🌎 Paper Bead Bracelets – Roll, glue, and string colorful paper beads to create stylish, upcycled jewelry.
🌱 eARTh Collages – Turn scrap paper, magazines, and tabs into stunning Earth-inspired collages that celebrate the beauty of our planet.
🐞 Recycled Litter Bugs – Give discarded materials a second life by crafting whimsical bug sculptures using bottle caps, bread tags, and more!

Crafternoons are for kids ages 5 and up. Please note that our workshop is upstairs and utilizes hot glue guns. Adults must remain in the EE Makerspace with their child.
