  • Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Central Coast at SCAPE’s (Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment) annual juried Fall Show, Central Coast Reflections. Held at the prestigious Music Academy of the West in Lehmann Hall, this two-day event not only celebrates stunning local art, but also supports a vital cause—benefiting environmental education nonprofit Explore Ecology.

    The show opens on Friday, September 13th at 2:30 pm, with a catered reception from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Event highlights include a Painting Demonstration by renowned artist Kevin Gleason on Saturday, September 14th at noon. The exhibition will also be open on Saturday, September 14th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

    The juror for the exhibit is Tom Henderson, a well-known fixture of the Santa Barbara art community and a member of the Oak Group. Some of Tom’s work will be on display.

  • Wild & Scenic shares an urgent call to action, encouraging festival-goers to learn more about what they can do to save our threatened planet. The Film Festival is Ventura Land Trust's largest annual event to raise funds to protect and conserve Ventura County's open spaces.

    Protecting local open spaces is more important than ever. Your support helps Ventura Land Trust restore habitat, build trails, plant trees, and clean up our local rivers.   • Say “so long” to summer at the Carpinteria Valley Historical Society and History Museum’s Marketplace scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum grounds, 956 Maple Ave. in downtown Carpinteria.

    The Marketplace’s assorted gathering of dealers promises happy hunting for all. Handcrafted jewelry, artisanal food products, film camera collections, handicrafts, collectibles, exotic plants, and furniture are just some of the goods for sale. Prices at Granny’s Attic, the booth operated by the museum, begin at 25 cents and the treasure trove includes toys, linens, kitchenware, dishware, dolls, figurines, record albums, and other assorted offerings.

    Suz-Anne Evans’ and Terrilyn Giamoni’ business Creative Mermaid Designs sells handmade Croc charms and custom items. Evans has been involved with the Marketplace since she moved to town in 2021. “It’s a great cause to support and I enjoy having the business/personal connections I have made because of it,” she noted.     Made possible by community volunteers, the family friendly Marketplace is free and includes musical entertainment. Hot dogs, cold beverages, and snacks are available for purchase.

    Next month events at the museum include New Volunteer and Docent Drop-in on Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to noon; Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to noon; and a Talk and Talkback Event, “Moment of Truth: Sorting Fact from Fiction in the Misinformation Age” on Sept. 30 from 5 to 6 p.m.

  • “Mermaid” is an evocative and deeply personal story that intertwines themes of culture, memory, and mythology. The narrative follows an American bridesmaid who clashes with her Nigerian relatives at a family wedding, only to discover that her deteriorating health is linked to an ancient mermaid goddess and a mysterious drowning ceremony. This one-hour solo show is a fictionalized retelling of Ohikhuare’s real-life battle with a debilitating brain disorder, bringing a unique blend of humor, tragedy, and magical realism to the stage.

  • Free concert kicks off “Live in Lompoc” Season

    Live in Lompoc kicks off Season 24-25 with a free outdoor concert featuring Santa Barbara Slideways Quartet on Sept. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. outside First United Methodist Church, 925 North F Street, on the lawn area.

    The concert will be an event for family and friends to spend an afternoon together enjoying great music and delicious food. Food trucks Sassafras and The Birria Boyz will be on location, so bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a Sunday afternoon filled with music. Food trucks arrive at 1 pm, introduction begins at 1:45 pm and the concert kicks off at 2 pm.
  • Celebrate 25 years of Wilderness Youth Project at an all-ages festival on October 5th, 2024, from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Santa Barbara City College’s Great Meadow.
