Camp Hosts Needed at The Neal Taylor Nature Center
Join us for an info session at the Neal Taylor Nature Center at Cachuma Lake! 2265 Hwy 154, Santa Barbara, CA 93105
Volunteer 20hrs/week and live at Cachuma Lake in Santa Barbara
The Neal Taylor Nature Center located at Cachuma Lake in the hills above Santa Barbara, CA is looking for a single volunteer or a volunteer couple. We need someone, preferably starting in May 2024 and staying through November 2024. This is a lovely time of year to be in this area. The volunteer(s) will be working with a fun group of other volunteers in the Nature Center and duties will include assisting with greeting visitors and children’s groups to the Nature Center, attending to a small gift shop, light duty helping to keep the Nature Center dusted and vacuumed, and computer work. Computer skills are a big plus.
In exchange for volunteering an average of 20 hours a week, a full hookup RV site (electric, water, sewer) is provided in a nice RV park just steps away from the Nature Center. Hours are somewhat flexible but revolve around the Center’s 10AM-4PM Wednesday-Saturday, 10 AM- 2PM Sunday schedule.
The Cachuma Lake Recreation Area is a short 20 minute drive to Santa Barbara, 10 minutes to Santa Ynez and the start of the valley wine country. There are so many fun things (something for everyone) to do in the area.
This is an excellent rewarding host opportunity for people who are responsible, self-directed, organized, and friendly!

“Your Brain on Art explores the new science of neuroaesthetics, a way of reimagining how to live that includes art as an essential part of the human experience and an unexpected doorway to healing.” – Mark Hyman, No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of Young Forever
Can visiting a museum help someone conquer feelings of loneliness, or even stave off the advent of dementia? In Your Brain on Art, authors Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross explore the wide variety of connections that contemporary neuroscience has established between artistic practice, aesthetic experience and optimal cognitive functioning. Susan Magsamen is the founder and director of the International Arts + Mind Lab, Center for Applied Neuroaesthetics at Johns Hopkins University. Ivy Ross is the vice president of hardware design at Google.
Embark on a musical journey with Kray Van Kirk, where folk Americana intertwines with Celtic roots, celebrating the universal Hero’s Quest that connects us all!
Embark on a musical journey with Kray Van Kirk, where folk Americana intertwines with Celtic roots, celebrating the universal Hero’s Quest that connects us all! “Every time I play cuts off "The Midnight Commander," listeners ask ‘Who’s that?’ It’s Kray Van Kirk and there’s none like him.” A fine finger-style guitarist with a precise baritone, Van Kirk has a Ph.D. from the University of Alaska. After five years of living in his van and playing music across the US and Canada, he thought that a career in the sciences might be a bit more secure than playing music for a living, especially as a single parent. Eventually, however, he realized that he liked writing songs more than statistical models, and he put aside his computer, picked up his guitar, and set out again. He released a new live concert CD, Kray Van Kirk - Live at the Acorn recorded in Three Oaks, MI, and it was selected as “Album of the Month” by Transatlantic Conversations on CelticMusicRadio.net.
