A South Coast university will be building a $30 million science center.

California Lutheran University will be breaking ground on its Thousand Oaks campus later this month on what will become a three-story, 47,000-square-foot facility featuring 30 flexible science labs.

Biomechanics professor Michele LeBlanc says the utilities will not be fixed to the floors or walls but instead come from the ceilings.

“That allows us to be able to move equipment and tables and have different configurations within the same lab and that gives us a lot of flexibility for what we’re doing currently but it also allows us to be flexible for whatever science is going to be happening in the future,” she says.

The science center will support the university’s increased student research opportunities and accommodate a growing number of science majors.

It’s scheduled to be completed by fall 2020.
