Ventura County Program Offering College Classes To Seniors Attracts Students From Around Country

Su Part is a college student.  The Westlake Village resident hasn’t let coronavirus stop her from taking classes.  But, she’s not your average student.  She’s in her 70’s.  Part is one of the students a relatively new program based in Ventura County aimed at bringing college level classes to older students interested in learning not because of grades, but for learning’s sake.

The classes are part of  an effort by California Lutheran University’s School for Professional & Continuing Studies.

Dr. Lisa Buono is Dean of the new school at the Thousand Oaks based university.  She says they were launching the “50 and Better” program just as the coronavirus crisis hit, forcing a big change in what was planned as an in-person program  But, out of the scramble to make the program work cam opportunity.

Just ask Kathleen Denny.  She has family in Ventura County, but the East Coast is home. The New Jersey woman has taken a number of classes through the program.  The 77 year old woman says she loves the choices available.

The program is less than a year old, but organizers are preparing to open the door this week to their fourthround of classes:
