It’s one of Jane Austen’s most endearing, and popular novels. Emma started as a book, which led to plays, TV miniseries, and a number of movies. Now, Santa Barbara’s Ensemble Theater Company is staging the romantic comedy as a musical.
Samantha Eggers plays Emma Woodhouse, and Kevin Earley co-stars as George Knightly. Tony Award nominated composer Paul Gordon wrote the music.
Director Andrew Barnicle says it follows the original plot, but with music to help tell the story.
Emma opens Thursday night at Santa Barbara’s New Vic Theater. The production runs through February 23rd.
