South Coast Industrial Arts Teacher Wins National Recognition; $50,000 To Be Shared With School

Oct 15, 2020

A South Coast high school teacher is receiving national recognition for excellence. Chris Mollkoy is an industrial arts teacher at Dos Pueblos High School, in Goleta.

The Harbor Freight Tools Company is honoring 18 trades teachers across the country.  The company is giving Dos Pueblos High School $35,000 for its trades program, and $15,000 personally to Mollkoy.

Mollkoy was an English teacher who switched careers, and became a contractor.  He started his own company, but decided to return to teaching in industrial arts.

The educator partnered with a number of trade and community groups to help students interested in fields like construction pursue careers in the fields.  It’s been a tough year for trades teachers, because hands-on,

in person experience is so difficult.
