A game plan is coming together to rejuvenate downtown Santa Barbara.
The plan was presented at the Santa Barbara City Council meeting on Tuesday, where many business owners and residents gave public comment.
The event was standing-room-only, with more than 100 people in the hearing.
The assistant to the city manager presented a long list of actions underway for the city and the public to look at. These included new lighting, new art installations, community events and entertainment, expanded farmer's market spaces, and extra safety teams day and night.
These are just the start of what could be a much a longer list.
Currently there are about 35 vacancies in the 13 block corridoor under consideration.
The city is also talking about hiring a consultant to help bring new economic energy to the area, and also allow pop-up businesses to open in some of those vacant spots right away.
