It's going to take more than a month to get a South Coast freeway on-ramp closed by a sinkhole reopened.
The sinkhole was discovered December 27th near the southbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Turnpike Road in Goleta. The on-ramp was immediately closed.
A Caltrans contractor has started repair work, which includes digging up and replacing a steel pipe which may be 40 feet deep.
Work will continue seven days a week, but it's expected it will take until the first week in February for the project to be completed, and the on-ramp reopened.
