Sales Tax Increase Pays Off For South Coast City

A new one-cent sales tax increase approved by voters in the city of Santa Barbara kicked in April of 2018.

That new tax appears to be having its intended effect.

The aim of the increase was to build a fund to fix the badly-damaged roads and sidewalks, as well as to set money aside for a new police command center.

The so-called "Measure C" funds are estimated to generate $22 million a year.

A long list of improvements is now on the checklist. When those are completed, the program will begin to accrue money for the police command center.

The new headquarters has been in the works for a considerable length of time.
