Plane Makes Emergency Landing On South Coast Highway; Two Onboard Unhurt

A Ventura County highway ended up doubling as a runway, as a small plane with engine trouble had to make an emergency landing.

A single engine plane heading from Santa Paula Airport to the San Fernando Valley experienced problems at around 3 p.m. Sunday.

The pilot, who is an experienced flight instructor, was able to scout around for the safest spot to try an emergency landing. He was able to safely set down the plane on Highway 126 near Piru. T

here were no conflicts with traffic on the highway, and after touching down the pilot taxied the aircraft safely off the roadway. Neither he nor a passenger on the plane were injured.
