Plane makes emergency landing in Santa Ynez Valley; Pilot unhurt

A light plane pilot in Santa Barbara County has quite a story to tell, after his aircraft lost power during takeoff, and he had to make an emergency landing.

The single engine plane took off from Santa Ynez Airport just before 11 a.m. Thursday when it had engine problems. The pilot didn’t have enough altitude to turn around and return to the airport. He made an emergency landing in a field off the end of the runway, crashing through a fence before coming to a stop.

The pilot was unhurt, and the plane suffered minor damage.
