More than a dozen people are under self-quarantine in their homes after a Santa Barbara County jail employee tested positive for coronavirus. The employee had just recently traveled to Europe. The worker was in a jail control room area last Thursday when they became ill. The employee sought medical attention, was diagnosed with coronavirus, and is currently in self quarantine at home.
Santa Barbara County Public Health officials determined that four deputies, six civilian county employees, and two members of the jail’s medical staff had all been potentially exposed, and needed to self-quarantine.
Meanwhile, in a second incident, a defense attorney who appeared in a Santa Maria courtroom last week tested positive for coronavirus. The attorney’s client and the client’s cellmate at the jail have been isolated from the general population. A court bailiff also is in self-quarantine.
