It was a very rough day in the battle against COVID-19 on the Central and South Coasts, with more than 900 new cases reported Wednesday.
Most of the additional cases came from Ventura County, which had nearly 800 cases.
Ventura County Public Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin says it’s unclear as to whether the big number is a fluke, or the result of a post-Thanksgiving surge.
The county hasn’t announced any changes in its shutdown orders, but the governor has hinted the state may make some, possibly as soon as Thursday.
Levin says there is one bit of good news. The first rounds of vaccine, which will go to medical personnel, is expected to arrive in the county in about two weeks. Also high on the priority list are staff members at assisted living facilities, as well as the residents.
Santa Barbara County reported 84 additional cases Wednesday, but lab issues prevented an unknown number from being processed. San Luis Obispo County had 33 new cases.
